      Duties & Responsibilities:

      Power Plant Electrician A performs installation, modification, diagnostic evaluation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of all electrical equipment at a hydroelectric power project with transmission voltages up to 230 kV.

      - Operates machine shop tools, portable air/electric tools, brazing/soldering equipment, overhead and gantry cranes, and insulating oil purifiers and pumps; performs electrical switching to effect or remove clearances.

      - Inspects and tests electrical equipment using diagnostic instruments (meggers, analyzers, volt/ammeters) to ensure preventive maintenance standards are met; assists in installing and modernizing equipment, wiring, and controls.

      - Maintains, adjusts, repairs, and overhauls electrical features of generators/motors, pump/turbines, power transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, exciters, governors, and auxiliary plant systems.

      - Adheres strictly to EM 385-1-1 safety requirements while maintaining maintenance records, technical files, drawings, and schematics.

    • This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Veterans' preference does not apply to this announcement.

      Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) POWER PLANT ELECTRICIAN, WB-2810-00 without more than normal supervision; this will involve at least the performance of common preventative maintenance, testing and repairs on electrical and electronic equipment at multi-purpose hydroelectric dam, hydroelectric power generating plant, spillway, intake structure, or switch yard. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Also, you will be evaluated on other Job Elements which are listed below.

      No substitution of education for experience is permitted for this position. Applicants must meet the Screen Out Element for further consideration.

      • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
      • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
      • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
      • This position requires that the incumbent possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
