- Position Overview/Duties:
Serves in the Omaha District (NWO) Safety & Occupational Health Office as the Occupational Health Nurse and Occupational Health Program Manager (OHPM) for Occupational Health, Medical Surveillance, Hearing Conservation, Medical Records Management, and Health Promotion Initiatives. This position serves civilian employees of the Omaha District as the Occupational Health Nurse for the purpose of implementing a comprehensive Occupational Health Program. The incumbent is responsible for the administration of the program for organizational elements located throughout a large and diverse geographical area, engaged in widely dispersed and diversified activities. The occupational health nurse focuses on the promotion of employee health, the prevention of illness and injury as it relates to their job duties, and protection from occupational environmental hazards. The nursing skills are combined with business acumen to promote a safe, secure, and healthy work environment. Schedules and reviews pre/post-employment physicals, periodic medical surveillance examinations and medical testing. Maintains accurate and current documentation of employee medical information and works with supervisors to ensure timely completion of required examinations and screenings. Administers the National Occupational Health Center processes for managing occupational health program. Provides medical counseling or verbal explanation of occupational health physicals to employees to ensure understanding of any medical tests, exams, or screening results. Responsible for operation of the District Nursing Station, providing basic first aid services to USACE employees in the Federal Building.

Minimum Education Requirement: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
