      Duties & Responsibilities:

      • Oiler-Deckhand aboard powered vessels displacing up to 1600 tons engaged in waterway maintenance.
      • Primary duty is in engine room with secondary duty as deckhand when needed.
      • Oils and greases diesel engines, electric motors, generators, pumps, bearings, gears, shafts, and other machinery and equipment aboard the vessel.
      • Under direction of Master or Engineer operates main engine end auxiliary equipment including pumps, generators, air compressors, and other machinery such as winches or small auxiliary engines, including all deck equipment.
      • Performs general vessel maintenance duties.

    • This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Veterans' preference does not apply to this announcement.

      • Living aboard vessels is a condition of employment, except for assignment to the MURDEN. This job assignment is aboard a floating plant assigned to work on various inlets and connecting channels along the Atlantic, Gulf Coasts and Caribbean waters. With limited exceptions, the incumbent is responsible for their own transportation to and from their duty station. Crew members are responsible for reporting to their duty station at the scheduled reporting time.

      • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

      • Must possess and maintain an Ordinary Seaman (O/S), Oiler Endorsement and STCW certification (Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers) from the U.S. Coast Guard.

      • Must possess and maintain Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC).

      • Within six months of assignment to this position, must be licensed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to operate motorboat of 26 feet or less.

      • TDY up to 95% may be required.

      • Position requires a pre-employment and periodic physical examination and/or evaluation under the District Medical Surveillance Program and may require the use of personal protective clothing or equipment.

      • This position meets the criteria for random drug and alcohol testing under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 7412, Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified Safety-Sensitive Under the DOT, Federal Highway Administration Rules on Drug and Alcohol Testing.

      • Tour of duty may be 7 days on, 7 days off, 12 hours per day; 8 days on, 6 days off, 10 hours per day or 4 days on, 3 days off, 10 hours per day; 15 days on, 15 days off, 12 hours a day.

      • Must obtain and maintain a government passport within 6 months of employment.

      • NOTE: This is a dual-rated position to ASSISTANT ENGINEER, DIESEL. If requirements of the position are met, the incumbent may be paid at the dual rate when assigned ASSISTANT ENGINEER, DIESEL duties for a complete shift. ASSISTANT ENGINEER, DIESEL duties are XH-4742-11 and reflect current PD duties of RL306047.
