Duties & Responsibilities:
Serves as a Mate/Dredge Control Officer aboard a Corps of Engineers vessel.
• Stands regularly scheduled bridge watches with duties consisting of complete navigation and control of the vessel steering or supervision of steering; controlling propulsion systems; operating pilothouse navigation, safety, and emergency equipment; and supervising the dredging functions.
• Directs subordinates in making repairs, applying troubleshooting techniques, and installing new equipment.
• Prepares correspondence, technical reports, status reports, fact sheets and other documentation for project execution and record keeping requirements.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Veterans' preference does not apply to this announcement.

Minimum Experience Requirement: Ability to do the work of a Mate (Dredge Control Officer/DR) without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out element to be considered further. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: perform common maintenance, repairs, and replacements to component parts of Mate (Dredge Control Officer/DR)

Must possess and maintain a current, U.S. Coast Guard license for Master, near coastal, 1600 gross tons.
Must possess and maintain an able Seafarer/able Bodied and Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC).
Must possess and maintain STCW certification (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) from the US Coast Guard.
Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S.
Position requires a pre-employment and periodic physical examination and/or evaluation under the District Medical Surveillance Program.
This position meets the criteria for random drug and alcohol testing under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 7412, Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified Safety-Sensitive Under the DOT, Federal Highway Administration Rules on Drug and Alcohol Testing. A pre-employment drug/alcohol screening maybe required.
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 95% of the time.
Incumbent may be required to live aboard vessel assigned.
Tour of duty may be 7 days on, 7 days off, 12 hours per day; 8 days on, 6 days off, 10 hours per day; 4 days on, 3 days off, 10 hours per day; 15 days on, 15 days off, or 14 days on, 14 days off, 12 hours per day.
This position may require the use of personal protective clothing or equipment.
This position is dual rated to the position of Master, XH-5782-16. Incumbent may be required to serve as a Master, XH-5782-16 when occasion demands.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 45lbs in the regular performance of duties.
This job assignment is aboard a floating plant assigned to work on various inlets and connecting channels along the Atlantic, Gulf Coasts and Caribbean Waters. With limited exceptions, the incumbent is responsible for their own transportation to and from their duty station. Crewmembers are responsible for reporting to their duty station at the scheduled reporting time.
Must obtain and maintain a government passport within 6 months of employment.
