- Position Overview/Duties:
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) announcement for an Interdisciplinary (Civil Engineer/Geologist) in the South Atlantic Division, Jacksonville District, Construction Division, Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir Resident Office.
Position Title: Interdisciplinary (Civil Engineer/Geologist)

Duty Location: Wellington, FL.
Duties:
- Serve as technical specialist for geologic/geotechnical aspects of construction projects.
- Provide expertise and field supervision in the area of engineering geology related to earthen dams and levees.
- Work includes construction of major civil works projects on earthen dams, filter drain installation, large water control structures and levees.
- Take appropriate measures to ensure work quality, verify compliance with contract provisions, and the resolve technical problems during site preparation and construction operations.
- Provide authoritative advice on geotechnical and geologic conditions and how these conditions could impact both design and construction.
- Stay abreast of latest technical developments and state of the practice in geology, dam safety, and geotechnical engineering with emphasis on engineering geology problems and geophysical investigative methods.
- Review design calculations to validate assumption and data are correct.
- Identify contractor activities, means and methods not meeting contract requirements.

We are seeking a talented candidate for GS-12, Interdisciplinary (Civil Engineer/Geologist) role to support SAJ – Construction Division, Material Testing Branch and the monumental EAA, a $2.9 billion MEGA Project and a cornerstone of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). The EAA A-2 Reservoir is a transformative undertaking, located within the Everglades Agricultural Area, south of Lake Okeechobee. This vital project will construct a state-of-the-art water reservoir and a comprehensive network of supporting infrastructure, crucial to the long-term health of the Everglades ecosystem. Based in Wellington, Florida – a thriving village in Palm Beach County renowned for its equestrian heritage, top-rated schools, and exceptional quality of life.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in engineering. The program must: lead to a degree in a school with at least one program accredited by ABET. Degree must be documented on a transcript.

Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing construction plans and specifications, developing preliminary findings on specifications, estimates, and recommendations for contract change orders and supplemental agreements; preparing deletions and changes in work, designs, methods, materials, equipment, time, and costs pertaining to the construction of embankment fill, embankment soil cement, quarry materials, and geotechnical instrumentation and other structures of the project; reviewing work quality, verify compliance with contract provisions, and the resolve technical problems during site preparation and construction operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
