      • This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

      About the Position:

      A Power Plant Electrician performs shop, plant, and outside work at a large multi-purpose power project. Using engineering data and schematic diagrams, they install, modify, repair, and perform diagnostic evaluation troubleshooting as well as periodic and unscheduled maintenance and calibration on the electrical and solid state analog electronic equipment common to hydroelectric power producing stations.

      Duties:

      • Install, modify, repair, perform diagnostic evaluation, troubleshoot, and perform periodic and unscheduled maintenance on the full range of electrical and solid state analog electronic equipment.

      • Install, modify, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and system ancillary to the project such as power distribution systems and heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

      • Install, modify, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and system to include lighting, security systems, dam safety instrumentation systems, and communications and telephone systems.

      • Make adjustment and test in accordance with industry standards and procedures on protective relays, communication equipment, voltage regulators, automatic generation control, and voltage control systems.

      • Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.

      • The incumbent must have the ability to perform the full range of Power Plant Electrician journey level duties.

      • They must have experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining power distribution circuits, communication systems, industrial power distribution systems, commercial/ industrial air conditioning and multi-zone heating and cooling systems (HVAC) that may include hydronic chillers, split systems, and package units.

      • Their experience as a journey level electrician was acquired in a commercial industrial plant.

      Physical Effort.

      • The incumbent handles heavy parts and equipment and works in cramped quarters in tiring positions.

      • Physical effort requires climbing stairs and ladders, and lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and twisting objects frequently weighing up to, and occasionally over,45 pounds.

      • A high degree of concentrated mental and visual attention is necessary to determine cause of trouble and to plan and carry out corrective action; to interpret complex drawings; and to coordinate a high degree of manual dexterity with close visual attention for sustained periods.

      • Ability to distinguish colors is essential.

      Working Conditions.

      • Work is performed in the project powerhouse, other structures, and the outdoors.

      • The employee is exposed to noise, extremes of heat or cold, dirt, oils, greases, dust, energized equipment, moving machinery, odors and fumes. Works around and over water, in damp drafty areas, and at various heights.

      • May work with a variety of toxic or caustic materials. Required to work in concrete structures.

      • There is a possibility of cuts, burns, falls, and electrical shock. Must wear all appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.

      Conditions of employment.

      • Position requires an initial/pre-employment physical and annual or periodic testing requirements as part of a Medical Surveillance Program.

      • The position requires the ability to lift heavy objects (45 pounds) specific to the position, vision for distance, distinguishing colors and calibrations, appropriate hearing capability for conversation and warning signals and any other unique physical requirement appropriate for the position held.

      • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid State driver's license.
