  • Position Overview/Duties:
    • This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) announcement for a Survey Section Supervisor, GS-XXXX-12 in the South Atlantic Division, Savannah District, Operations Division.

      Position Title: Survey Section Supervisor, GS-XXXX-12 (69881)

      Series/Grade: GS-XXXX-12, (0150 Geography, 0801 General Engineer, 0810 Civil Engineer, 0819 Environmental Engineer, 1301 Physical Scientist, 1370 Cartography, 1373 Land Surveying)

      Duty Location(s): Savannah, GA

      • Supervises and directs a subordinate staff of approximately six members involved in hydrographic surveying and data processing. Develops performance standards, addresses employee concerns, and identifies training and development needs for the team. Manages personnel responsibilities, including hiring, assigning work, setting deadlines, and evaluating performance.
      • Plans, coordinates, and directs all hydrographic surveying, mapping, and charting functions for the waterways of Savannah District, including Savannah Harbor, Brunswick Harbor, and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.
      • Serves as the lead technical advisor on hydrographic survey matters, interpreting data for planning, engineering, and construction of civil works navigation projects, using complex data systems and software, including HYPACK, CADD, and GIS. Conducts research and recommends the acquisition of new, state-of-the-art surveying and mapping equipment.
      • Acts as a technical expert on hydro survey activities, providing guidance to improve survey techniques and processes. Collaborates with Navigation Chiefs and other managers to identify requirements and prioritize projects.
      • Represents the District in meetings, national conferences, and forums with other agencies to discuss mutual challenges and share operational improvements.

    • This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

      Minimum Education Requirement:

      Engineering: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in engineering. The program must: lead to a degree in a school with at least one program accredited by ABET. Degree must be documented on a transcript.

      Biology & Physical Science: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study or specific course requirements.

      Specialized Experience:

      To qualify for this position, applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service that has equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
