      This opportunity is being announced through the USACE Voluntary Internal Opportunities Program (VIOP).       Serves as a Forester in a reservoir area with responsibility for the development and execution of annual work plans for forest management:

      Apply forestry science principles and practices including timber harvesting procedures, determining timber volumes, and requirements for Best Management Practices.
      - Incorporate forestry related disciplines such as hydrology, soils, plant pathology, entomology, wildlife habitat management, sufficient to recognize how they relate to silviculture issues and to recognize when specialized advice is needed.
      - Develop forest management plans and annual work plans while ensuring adherence to applicable environmental laws and regulations.
      - Become a Certified Prescribed Burning Manager and assist in the execution of the project’s prescribed fire program.
      - Participate in the development of and maintenance of natural resource management plans; and to develop and provide to the public information on those natural resource activities, including prescribed burning, invasive species management, and threatened and endangered species outreach and management.
      - Work with databases, computer programs, and GIS/GPS, to input natural resource and recreation information and to be able to process, retrieve and interpret information gathered.
      - Participate in the USACE Visitor Assistance Program, patrol project lands and waters to provide visitor protection and assistance while interpreting and enforcing rules and regulations.

  • Other Conditions and Requirements:
    • This position requires the incumbent to complete a pre-placement and annual physical examination.
      This position requires the incumbent to wear prescribed uniform as identified in regulation ER 1130-2-550.
      This position requires that the incumbent possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
      This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain Corps of Engineers boat operators license within 2 years of entry into the position.
      This position requires the incumbent to complete Park Ranger training requirements (including Visitor Assistance Training, CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, and Unarmed Self Defense) within 1 year of entry into the position.
      This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain Title 36 Citation Authority within 1 year of entry into the position.

      This position requires the incumbent to work nights, weekends and/or holidays depending on the needs of the project.
      This position requires the incumbent to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g. heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.).

      This position requires the incumbent to work overnight travel required for training, conferences and rotational assignments less than10% of the time.
      This position requires the incumbent to work during emergencies; the incumbent may be called on short notice.

      This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
