Position Overview/Duties
This is an internal announcement for a Geotechnical Civil Engineer, GS-0810-12, in the South Atlantic Division, Caribbean District, Engineering Division.

The Caribbean District is looking for a highly skilled Geotechnical Civil Engineer to serve as a technical specialist in soil mechanics, materials engineering, and foundation design – helping to build and maintain the infrastructure that protects and serves the people of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of critical infrastructure projects involving levees, dams, bridges, pumping stations, and coastal structures. Your role will include:
- Leading scientific investigations and complex stability analyses on soil and rock for major flood control and civil works structures.
- Conducting advanced seepage and slope stability modeling using SEEP/W, UTEXAS4, SLOPE/W, and finite element methods.
- Designing and evaluating deep and shallow foundation systems for challenging subsurface conditions.
- Planning and supervising field explorations, including piezometer and well installations and permeability testing.
- Preparing high-level technical reports, engineering documentation, and contributing to multidisciplinary design teams.
- Presenting findings and coordinating with federal agencies, A-E firms, and construction teams across the region.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.

- Current Professional Engineering (PE) License in good standing is required.
- PCS may be authorized.
- Relocation incentive may be authorized. Before the payment of a Relocation Incentive, an employee must provide residence documentation and maintain a residence in the new geographic location for the duration of the service agreement.
- Student Loan Repayment may be authorized.
- This position requires that the incumbent possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position may be eligible for situational telework.
