Position Overview/Duties
This is not a virtual position. This position is remote and physically located in Hattiesburg, MS. The incumbent will report to supervisor seated in the Engineering and Support Center, Directorate of Engineering, Electrical Branch, Huntsville, AL.
To qualify your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Demonstrates knowledge and ability to analyze existing training range target system and facility infrastructure (specifically the power and telecommunications infrastructure) and provide recommendations on modifications and facility upgrades required to support modern target systems. 2)Provides construction reviews of plans and specifications for technical soundness and practicability of automated training range projects with emphasis on the power and telecommunications interface with modern target systems. 3) Demonstrates technical knowledge of automated range control systems, power and data wiring, and construction of target emplacements and target mechanisms to solve problems with the operation of existing ranges and to provide guidance on improving the operation and sustainment of existing ranges. 4) Prepares technical scopes of work, cost estimates, and schematic engineering designs for proposed range projects. 5) Ensures contractors' compliance contract requirements for new range construction and ensure compliance with modern target interface requirements. Other Conditions and Requirements
Serves as an engineering Branch expert and advisor for highly specialized and complex engineering applications in the practice areas of the design, construction, operation, and sustainment of automated training ranges. Expert knowledge on Government owned target control systems, range power systems, range telecommunication systems, target emplacement construction, and industry standard target mechanisms. Basic knowledge of US Army training requirements to determine the specific facility requirements to meet training objectives and requirements. Will perform inspection of actual site conditions and existing facilities and formulate criteria for the operation and maintenance of major facilities and systems. Systems include electrical power, telecommunications, target control, target emplacement construction, target mechanism operation, and other unique and specialized engineering systems associated with the operation and sustainment of automated training ranges. Serves as technical specialist for resolution of existing training range operational and technical issues resulting in range downtime and loss of training for the Army. Participate in technical forums, teams, and working groups with other Government agencies for development of new projects, development of new criteria and for improving existing processes and criteria related to the construction, operation, and sustainment of automated training ranges. Responsible for technical review, coordination, and consultation of criteria with other agencies and firms for the planning, design, and construction of new automated training range projects. Participate in technical teams tasked to develop new project requirements and establish Rough Order Magnitude cost estimates and develop project 1391’s. Will also serve as a technical advisor to other engineers in the Center, to AE and construction contractors, and to Department of Defense range managers for complying with standard range construction criteria and target interface requirements. Reviews electrical designs developed by AE firms and other Government agency designers for compliance with Army Range construction standards and target interface requirements. Inspects new range construction for compliance with construction contract requirements, Army standard Range Construction Criteria, and standard Army target interface requirements.
