Position Overview/Duties

This is an internal announcement for a Legal Assistant, GS-0986-07, in the South Atlantic Division, Mobile District, Office of Counsel.

Position Title: Legal Assistant, GS-0986-07

Who May Apply: This position is open to CURRENT, PERMANENT USACE EMPLOYEES ONLY. You must be a GS-07 to qualify.

Open Period: 15 September-15 October 2025

Duty Location: Mobile, AL.

  • Current permanent USACE GS-07 will be considered for reassignment.

Duties:

  • Responsible for office administration matters, such as time and attendance, travel orders, IT support, ordering office supplies and equipment, and property accountability.
  • Receives telephone calls, e-mails, and visitors, provides information or other assistance, or refers inquiries to appropriate staff members.
  • Responsible for clerical support and legal assistance to the attorneys in all practice areas, including maintaining files in the electronic network filing system and updating the case management database.
  • Performs multiple and varied clerical duties, such as maintaining office property log, using the government purchase card to procure supplies and equipment, and assisting with tracking and reporting requirements.
  • Maintains office calendars and schedules appointments and meetings.
  • Assists attorneys in preparation of legal filings, administrative records, and discovery responses for submission to court, board, or opposing party.
  • Assists attorneys and paralegals in proofing and finalizing legal filings and pleadings, using computer software to correct format and checking readability, continuity, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
