Position Overview/Duties
Come serve as a Structural Engineer for Task Force Virgin Islands Puerto Rico (TF VIPR)! You will serve as a technical expert for analysis and design of steel and concrete structures, specifically bridges and hydraulic structures; also serves as the technical expert in structural dynamics. The incumbent’s work also includes expertise in concrete materials, mix proportioning and admixtures and their effect on construction and durability. Analysis and design encompass bridge superstructures, structural foundation systems for bridges, bridge culverts, culvert structures, retaining walls, water control structures, dam outlet works, and others. Analysis techniques include numerical methods through finite element analysis and finite difference analysis to account for complex geometry and loading conditions, thermal stresses induced by the environment and the heat of hydration of cement, nonlinear materials behavior, sequential or staged construction. Design considerations include static and dynamic/seismic design and analysis, temperature studies, concrete and steel testing requirements and construction and instrumentation requirements. In addition, incumbent develops structural engineering computer models including employing applicable and advanced constitutive models when required and/or programs which require knowledge of advanced mathematics. The position requires a high level of structural engineering knowledge of the principles, methods, practices, and techniques for the solution of complex problems.

You will serve under the general direction of the Technical Support Branch Chief, receiving administrative supervision, and as required, overall policy/guidance changes for the Task Force and/or Corps of Engineers.
