Position Overview/Duties

This job opportunity is open to CURRENT, PERMANENT USACE EMPLOYEES ONLY.

This opportunity is being announced through the USACE Voluntary Internal Opportunities Program (VIOP). Current, permanent USACE employees with noncompetitive eligibility to be placed in this position are eligible to apply. Major Duties:

Conducts anthropological/archaeological/historical studies of cultural resources, involving planning, scheduling, budgeting, research coordination, analyses and evaluation of assigned civil and military projects. Prepares reports documenting anthropological/archeological/ and compliance with federal cultural resource directives. Incumbent is responsible for the full scope of the research and compliance process as part of the environmental study team. Incumbent also works with Regulatory Division overseeing permittee compliance work on Section 404 permit actions, including review and approval of permit's contractor's cultural resources investigation products.

  • Selective Placement Factor: This position has a Selective Placement Factor with the following requirements: Graduate degree in archeology, anthropology, or closely related field plus: 1) at least one year of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training in archeological research, administration or management; 2) at least four months of supervised field and analytic experience in general North American archeology and 3) demonstrated ability to carry research to completion.

  • Must have and maintain a valid and current motor vehicle operator’s license.

  • Field visits require regular and recurring physical exertion such as: hiking long distances through rough country, repeated digging of soil pits, frequent bending or stooping to sample vegetation or artifacts, climbing steep inclines, and jumping over obstructions. The incumbent must possess the required physical abilities of being able to lift up to 40 pounds.

  • Work is performed both in an office and field setting. Field visits involve regular and recurrent exposure to adverse weather conditions or situations in which one is exposed to heavy earth moving equipment or unimproved roads that must be traversed. Such work environments may also involve exposure to unfavorable conditions such as dangerous chemicals, noise, fumes, and contaminated water and require use of protective equipment such as hard hats, protective shoes, etc.
