    Duties:

  • Serves as a Natural Resource Management Specialist/Park Ranger as part of a multi-disciplinary team for a Corps water resources development project. Performs a variety of assignments involving all aspects of project operations which may include natural resources management, shoreline management, recreation, visitor assistance, contract administration, environmental stewardship, and environmental compliance.
    1. Participates in the development and updates of various planning and operational documents including but not limited to the Project Master Plan, Operational Management Plan, Project Safety Plan, Fire Prevention Plan, Shoreline Management Plan, and plans for management of natural resources.
    2. Participates in conservation, preservation, restoration and use of project natural and cultural resources.
    3. Participates in various aspects of recreation management at the project.
    4. Enforces Title 36 CFR by educating the visiting public on project purposes, conditions, policies and regulations.
    5. Assists with project’s environmental compliance program.
    6. Conducts public relations services for the general public and special groups.
    7. Assists with forestry, fisheries and wildlife management, pest control, boundary surveillance, and public safety.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS, AND OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    -Administrative work is conducted primarily in an office environment. Visitor assistance, site inspections, interpretive, and outreach are conducted in both an office setting and outdoors. Outdoor activities can occur in all kinds of weather. The incumbent is subject to the hazards associated with working in and around wooded areas, along the shoreline and on waters of the lake. Safe work practices are an integral part of this position. Incumbent is required to know, comply with and promote prescribed safety rules and regulations.
    -Required to wear prescribed uniform as identified in ER 1130-2-550.
    -Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Is regularly required to patrol park with one or more passengers.
    -Possession or ability to acquire Corps of Engineers boat operator's license within 2 years.
    -Must complete Park Ranger training requirements (including Visitor Assistance Training, CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, Unarmed Self Defense) within one year
    -Must possess or be able to acquire Title 36 Citation Authority within one year.
    -Ability to work nights, weekends and/or holidays depending on the needs of the project.
    -May be required to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g. heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.).
    -Occasional overnight travel required for training, conferences and rotational assignments less than 10% of the time.
    -During emergencies, the incumbent may be called on short notice.
    -The incumbent is required to supervise or perform prescribed burns, and/or operate a motor vehicle with one or more passengers on at least a weekly basis.

  • Serves as an incidental motor vehicle operator. Operates an automobile, light truck, ATV or motorboat to accomplish assigned duties. Employee must be able to operate motor vehicles without danger to self or others. Must be able to maintain required Corps of Engineers certification for operation of motorboats.
