Position Overview/Duties

As an advanced trainee in the Army Civilian Career Program for Engineers and Scientists, utilizes the basic principles of the applicable engineering discipline to perform the less complex mechanical/electrical engineering phases of planning, design, and construction of water resource projects. The position is located with the Walla Walla Corps of Engineer District, WA

At the entry level, performs work assignments of limited scope and difficulty designed to provide advanced practical application and experience of theories and principles in the engineering field of specialization. Assists higher level professional personnel by carrying out complete projects of limited scope or narrow aspects of broader projects. Typical work assignments involve matters such as: computations and calculations of a variety of data and work of a similar degree of difficulty and/or design or review mechanical/electrical portions of engineering designs prepared by Architect-Engineer firms with various systems and facilities. At the full performance level incumbent will be permanently located within the Northwest Division Hydroelectric Program at either Walla Walla, Seattle or Portland District Corps of Engineers at one of their various hydroelectric operating projects. Travel is required-approximately 25% of time per year.

Pay Grade: GS-7 Target GS-11

Qualifications:

To qualify as a GS-07: Specialized experience: To qualify, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level (GS-5). Specialized experience includes skill in applying theories, concepts, principles, and methodologies of engineering. You may also qualify for this position by substituting educations for experience or using a combination of educations and experience as described below:


A)Have one year of graduate-level education related to this position.

B)Have superior academic achievement at the baccalaureate level in a professional engineering curriculum is qualifying for GS- 7. Superior Academic Achievement is defined

1)a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for all completed undergraduate coursework or for all courses completed in the last two full years of undergraduate work;

2)a GPA of 3.5 or higher for all courses in the major field of study, or those courses in your major completed in the last two full years of undergraduate work;
3)ranking in the upper one third of your college, university, or major subdivision; or
4)membership in a national honor society other than freshman honor societies recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. In order to be creditable under this provision, superior academic achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that qualifies for the position to be filled.

C)Have a combination of specialized experience and some of the education described in

A. When combining education and experience, first take the number of graduate-level semester credits (or equivalent) earned divided by 60 semester credits (or equivalent);then take the number of months of experience divided by 12 months; finally add the two percentages together. The total must equal at least 100% to qualify.

D)Have successfully completed a five-year program of study of at least 160 semester hours leading to a bachelor's degree in Engineering.
