Position Overview/Duties

As a Recent Graduate employee, you will be assigned to a senior engineer or group of engineers. You will be assigned tasks designed to familiarize you with different aspects of the occupation. Tasks will vary depending on the senior engineer's current workload, but may include the following:

1. Assisting higher graded engineers on various aspects of civil engineering projects such as, preparing drawings, graphs, and charts.

2. Performing analysis and calculations using standard mathematical engineering formulas and standards, researching and collecting technical data for use by senior engineers.

3. Performing duties which are designed to provide orientation in the application of academic theories and basic principles of civil engineering work and to accomplish non-complex tasks.

4. Recording factual data from tests and other studies by manual or computerized systems. 

5. Completing formal/informal classroom training, on-the-job training, and or self-development to obtain basic knowledge of the principles, theories, reference material and work procedures fundamental to the field. 

As a Post-Secondary Student, you will be assigned to a senior specialist or group of specialists. You will be assigned tasks designed to familiarize you with different aspects of the occupation. Tasks will vary depending on the senior specialist's current workload, but may include the following:
1. Assist senior staff members in the collection and analysis of data, performing a variety of duties with an increasing degree of difficulty and responsibility.
2. Participate in a variety of projects utilizing basic computer skills to provide assistance in evaluating requirements and procedures, assisting with the preparation of technical and administrative reports, and interfacing with senior program officials.
3. Assist in preparing correspondence concerning project status.

Eligibility Requirements for Recent Graduates: An individual who meets the following may apply for the DHA Recent Graduate Program: Was awarded a degree by an institution of higher education not more than two years before the date of the appointment of such person, except that in the case of a person who has completed a period of obligated service in a uniform service of more than four years. The qualifications requirements below must be met in addition to eligibility requirements.

  3. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration

Student Trainee (Geophysics) 1399 

Eligibility Requirements for Post Secondary StudentsAn individual who meets the following may apply for the DHA Post- Secondary Student Program:  Must currently be enrolled in, and in good academic standing at, a full-time program at an institution of higher education; AND is currently make satisfactory progress toward receipt of a baccalaureate or graduate degree.

Full Performance Level- Geophysicist -GS-1313-12

Appointment Type: This is a term appointment, NTE 4 YEARS. DHA Post-Secondary Students may work part-time or full-time schedules depending on their class schedules. DHA Post-Secondary Students may be considered for noncompetitive conversion to a permanent appointment within 120 days of completion of degree requirements, if they meet the following. Non-competitive conversion may be to the GS-5/7 or 9 level, depending on qualifications. Conversion to permanent is not automatic or guaranteed.  

1.Successfully complete academic requirements as determined by the educational institution
2.Meet the OPM Qualification requirements for the target position to which the DHA Post-Secondary Student may be converted
3.Maintain acceptable performance
4.Obtain a passing score to fulfill the requirements of this Administrative Careers with America (ACWA) covered position.

 

Qualifications requirement: must have completed at least 1 full academic year of post-high school study.
