Position Overview/Duties

    Duty Location(s): John H Kerr Dam & Reservoir located in Boydton, VA. 

    Position Duties


  • The incumbent will perform the full range of Park Ranger duties to include direct support of the recreation program. Incumbent will provide visitor assistance, public safety and resource protection. Incumbent may conduct interpretive programs, perform administrative duties and assist with other duties as assigned.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

  • Applications must be submitted after 12:01 AM (EST) of the posted Job Posting Open Date and before 11:59 PM (EST) of the posted Job Posting Close Date to receive consideration.
  • All positions require the applicant to be a citizen of the United States.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, are required to register for Selective Service prior to appointment.
  • A trial or probationary period may be required. 
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • Occasional overnight travel is required for training, conferences and rotational assignments less than 10% of the time.
  • Required to wear prescribed uniform.
  • Possession of or the ability to acquire a state driver's license.
  • Incumbent is required to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind,
    etc.).
  • Must work nights, weekends and/or holidays depending on the needs of the project to which the employee is assigned
  • Possession or ability to acquire Corps of Engineers boat operator's license within 2 years.
  • Must complete Park Ranger training requirements (including Visitor Assistance Training, CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, Unarmed Self Defense) within one year.
  • Must possess or be able to acquire Title 36 Citation Authority within one year.
  • Selectees for entry-level positions requiring the Administrative Careers with America (ACWA) assessment must be assessed using the most recent streamlined ACWA examination or a validated alternative assessment instrument.
  • During emergencies, the incumbent may be called on short notice.
