Position Overview/Duties

Professional Project Hydraulic Engineer with responsibility for planning, coordinating, and carrying out to completion all aspects of hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) engineering investigations and activities involving a diversity of projects of substantial complexity and workload volume. Work requires the application of an extensive professional knowledge of H&H engineering principles, theories, and techniques. Work includes, but is not limited to, environmental enhancement/restoration projects; channel improvement projects; flood control projects; erosion and sediment control studies and designs; H&H river engineering and related design; sedimentation, and geomorphic studies research for long-range planning; coordination of model studies, and any other projects in the field of hydrology and hydraulics assigned to the Hydrology and Hydraulics Section. Assigned responsibilities include work in the preliminary planning through detailed design stages; evaluation and resolution of problems encountered during construction: the study, evaluation, and resolution of post construction and operational problems; and serving as government expert witness in court and other legal proceedings. Most studies are multi-purpose in nature and involve the following functions: flood control; water supply; wildlife preservation; recreation; hydropower; environmental enhancement; ground water and water quality. The engineer coordinates work with other District, Federal, State, local organizations, and/or A-E contractor personnel; serves as Section, Branch, and District POC; Leads team members in conducting H&H analyses; coordinates work of and advises engineers and technicians on technical, administrative, and policy problems and matters; and technically reviews completed work for technical accuracy and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and guidance. Personally accomplishes the most difficult and complex engineering work assigned to the group. Makes major decisions and recommendations within area of functional responsibility. Is responsible for the validity of engineering assumptions and recommendations and for compliance with directives. Develops and monitors detailed project budgets and schedules and coordinates revisions or changes with other elements. Coordinates work of and advises engineers and technicians on technical, administrative, and policy problems. 

Other Conditions and Requirements

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Salary range is different depending on location.
